Averages of b-hadron, c-hadron, and $$\tau $$ τ -lepton properties as of summer 2016

Abstract: This paper reports world averages of measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and τ -lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavour Averaging Group using results available before April 2021. In rare cases, significant results obtained several months later are also used. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, C… Show more

“…For convenience, we also present numerical results in the other commonly used scheme of Buras, Misiak, and Urban. [1,2]. Although still not as precise as experiment, the Standard Model theory for kaon and B ðsÞ -meson mixing is also under good control, owing to recent lattice-QCD calculations of the relevant hadronic matrix elements for kaons [3][4][5] and for neutral B ðsÞ mesons [6].…”

“…Especially, the leading short-distance contribution to ε K in the SM is proportional to |V cb | 4 (cf., ref. [69]), whose measured values from inclusive semileptonic B decays (B → X c − ν) and from exclusive decays (B → D ( * ) − ν and Λ b → Λ c − ν) are inconsistent at a 4.1σ level [38,70]. A recent discussion about the exclusive |V cb | is given in refs.…”
