Averages of b-hadron, c-hadron, and tau-lepton Properties

Abstract: This article reports world averages for measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and τ lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using results available at least through the end of 2009. Some of the world averages presented use data available through the spring of 2010. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral… Show more

“…The SM prediction (A s SL ) SM = (1.9 ± 0.3) • 10 −5 [10], which is often named a s sl or a s fs in the literature, agrees with the direct measurement (A s SL ) exp = −0.0017 ± 0.0092 [50] within the (large) error. However, recent measurements of the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry A b SL [51], which connects A s SL to its counterpart A d SL of the B 0 d -meson sector [52], imply a deviation of almost 2σ.…”

“…The RS result is shown in Figure 3, where we have sketched the experimental favored values S ψφ = 0.56 ± 0.22 [54] and A s SL = −0.0085 ± 0.0058 [50]. The latter number combines the direct measurement with the results derived from the measurement of A b SL in semileptonic B-decays together with the average A d SL = −0.0047 ± 0.0046 from B-factories.…”

“…As far as global fit inputs are concerned, this is the case for the inclusive and exclusive determinations of |V ub | and |V cb |, which involve non-perturbative inputs of different nature. We use the latest HFAG results [10] for each of these determinations and combine inclusive and exclusive determinations following the same scheme as for the combination of lattice quantities. We refer the reader to refs.…”

“…These toy experiments also reproduce the quoted 95% CL limits, giving some support to this approximate treatment. The Tevatron results were afterwards recomputed using the latest world average f d /f s = 3.71 ± 0.47 [50], for consistency with the LHCb analysis. The results of the three experiments were combined using the CL s method, treating the error on f d /f s and the branching ratio of B + → J/ψ(µ + µ − )K + as systematic errors common to the three experiments.…”
