Avaliação dos fatores psicossociais de disfunção temporomandibular em atletas utilizando o eixo II do RDC/TMD

Abstract

Temporomandibular Dysfunction has a multifactorial etiology, involving psychological aspects, such as depression, anxiety and somatization, which can lead to an impairment of the individual's quality of life. To ensure a good performance of the athlete, it is important both the physical and mental fields to be healthy. The objective of this study was to evaluate through axis II of the RDC / TMD questionnaire the psychosocial factors of TMD, the types of sports -individual and collective and the individual's practice time. The questionnaire was applied online and 132 athletes answered. It was possible to observe a negative linear correlation within the statistical analysis and the comparison between the variables "time of practice and depression", and "time of practice and somatization" presented a significant statistical result. It can be concluded that the level of depression increased as the degree of chronic pain increased. As for the type of sport, individuals who practice individual sports had a higher level of depression and a degree of chronic pain. As for the practice time, the level of depression and somatization decreased as the practice time increased.
