Parâmetros sanguíneos de ovinos com alta infecção porHaemonchus contortus e tratados com "cogumelo do sol" (Agaricus blazei) AbstractBlood and parasitological parameters of sheep experimentally infected with Haemonchus contortus and treated with "mushroom of the sun" (Agaricus blazei) were assessed. Lambs infected with the nematode were divided into three groups: treated with basidiocarp powder from the fungus, wormed with trichlorfon, and a control group that did not receive anthelmintic. Split-plot design analysis was performed where the treatments were defined as plots and four periods of collection were defined as subplots. Interaction between the treatments and the collection periods for the fecal egg counts per gram of feces (FEC) was observed. Treatment with "mushroom of the sun" showed anthelmintic efficacies ranging from 28.6 to 54.2%. Similar performances to weight gain were observed among the groups. A significant interaction between treatments and evaluation periods was observed for erythrocyte counts, hematocrit value, and serum concentrations of albumin and urea. The values of the mean corpuscular volume, erythrocyte distribution width, and leukocyte, neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and eosinophil counts, as well as the mean platelet volume, varied among the collection days. The administration of "mushroom of the sun" significantly reduced the FEC, did not influence on the erythrocyte count and hematocrit value, which remained within normal limits. Verificouse interação dos tratamentos e dos períodos de coleta para o número de ovos por grama de fezes (OPG). O tratamento com "cogumelo do sol" apresentou eficácia anti-helmíntica variando de 28,6% a 54,2%, entretanto o desempenho foi semelhante entre os grupos. Verificou-se interação significativa dos tratamentos e os períodos avaliados para as contagens de eritrócitos, o valor do hematócrito e as concentrações séricas de albumina e ureia. Os valores do volume corpuscular médio, da amplitude de distribuição de eritrócitos, as contagens de leucócitos, neutrófilos, linfócitos, monócitos e eosinófilos, bem como o volume plaquetário médio variaram entre os dias de coleta. A administração do "cogumelo do sol" reduziu o OPG, não influenciou a contagem de eritrócitos e o valor do hematócrito, que estiveram dentro dos limites da normalidade, e aumentou significativamente as concentrações séricas de albumina. Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla Linnaeus, 1758) of the brazilian cerrado: hematology and storage effect. Pesquisa Veterinária Brasileira 37 (7): [773][774][775][776][777][778][779][780]. Laborató-rio Clínico Veterinário, Hospital Veterinário, Departamento de Medicina Veterinária, Escola de Veterinária e Zootecnia, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Rodovia Goiânia Km 8, Campus Samambaia, Goiânia, GO, Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is a vulnerable species because of progressive habitat destruction, mostly affected by wildfires and car accidents. The increasing number of animals that are attended by wildlife rescue centres reinforces the need of knowledge about haematological parameters, especially for those that inhabit Brazilian cerrado biome. For this purpose and in order to establish reference values for this species and also to compare them with previous studies, haematological analysis of captive giant anteaters from Brazilian cerrado were performed. Moreover, the alterations of blood samples after 24 and 48 hours of storage at refrigeration temperatures (4 o C) and preserved with two different EDTA concentrations (5% and 10%) were studied. Means and standard deviations of haematological parameters analysed immediately after collection were: RBC: 2,07 x106/µL ± 0,40; hematocrit: 38,08%± 5,93; haemoglobin: 11.33g/dL±2.15; MCV:186.52 fL±21.72; MCHC: 29.68g/dL±2.56; MCH: 55.08pcg±5,94; total leucocytes: 8.142/µL±2.441; neutrophils: 5.913/µL±2.168; lymphocytes: 1.460/ µL±740; eosinophil: 522/µL±385; monocytes: 247/µL±176; thrombocytes: 123.458/ µL±31.362 and total plasma protein: 6.23g/dL±0.49. This data shows evidence of the existence of important differences between these values and others from other areas, either from Brazil or from other South American countries. Those variations might be connected to environment, genetic, nutritional and/or management factors. Regarding the storage effect analysis, it can be concluded that in giant anteaters, haematological analysis can be performed until 24h after collection without any significant alterations on the haematological parameters, except for thrombocytes. Concerning the different EDTA concentrations, it can be concluded that there are no quantitative differences in haematological variables. Nevertheless, relevant morphologic alterations in blood cells can be observed after a 24h storage period, being most noticeable in the leucocytes. Those alterations can lead to misinterpretation of the results, interfering diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. (6,23g/dL±0,49). Effects of Purge Potato (Operculina Macrocarpa) in Multinutritional Blocks on Sheep Naturally Infected With Gastrointestinal Helminth

Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia da batata de purga (Operculina macrocarpa) incorporados a blocos multinutricionais (BMs) sobre nematódeos gastrintestinais de ovinos. O trabalho foi desenvolvido na fazenda Lameirão no município de Santa Teresinha-PB, Brasil, de acordo com um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e seis repetições de um animal. Os tratamentos foram: T1 = apenas BMs; T2 = BMs + batata de purga (1g/Kg/peso vivo); T3 = BMs + batata de purga (0,5g/Kg/pv) e T4 = BMs + anti-helmíntico químico. Os ganhos de pesos diários e final se mostraram mais elevados para os tratamentos BMs com batata de purga 1g/Kg/pv, 0,5g/Kg/pv e químico com GPMD=56,7; 38,3; 53,8g e GPT=3,4; 2,3; 3,1kg respectivamente. Como também para o OPG que diminuiu aos sete dias com 767, 516, 267 e eficácia de 53, 68, e 84% respectivamente. Na coprocultura foram identificados dois gêneros com maior prevalência do Haemonchus sp. em todos os tratamentos. Foram recuperados os parasitos Haemonchus contortus, Trichostrongylus colubriformis, Strongyloides papillosus, Oesophagostomum columbianum. Os tratamentos acrescidos de batata de purga (O. macrocarpa) apresentaram eficácia considerável para um fitoterápico, com isso este método de controle com blocos multinutricionais acrescidos do fitoterápico nas doses de 0,5 a 1g/Kg/pv seria usado para diminuir os níveis de infecção global dos parasitos.
