Avaliação de diferentes modelos para estimar valor genético em características que compõem o índice de seleção em bovinos compostos

Abstract

Composite breeds are important for the development of Brazilian livestock and genetic improvement. The compounds, however, present a certain complexity to evaluate the animals and predict the genetic merit of the animals and also in the mating decisions. Three different statistical models were evaluated to deal with information from the Montana Tropical® Compound through the BLUPF90 family software on 5 animal growth and reproductive characteristics. The statistical models ranged from the simplest, considering a pure breed, to the most complex with information on the biological type of the animal and the mother. The characteristics are: weaning weight, yearling weight, post-weaning weight gain, scrotal circumference and muscularity. This last model presented more conservative results
