Introduction: The relationship between health and spirituality gained relevance from the recognition of the importance of multidimensional patient care, respecting the biopsychosocial and spiritual aspects. Spirituality integrated into Palliative Care (PC) allows patients affected by neoplasms in the non-curative phase of treatment to have greater understanding and acceptance of the diagnosis of the disease, thus enabling the humanization of care. Methodology: Qualitative and descriptive cross-sectional research, carried out with patients diagnosed with GC in PC. The assessment of the spiritual dimension of the chosen patients was conducted through the application of the Spiritual Anamnesis, using the FICA script. Based on the results, discourse analysis was carried out using the thematic content analysis technique. Results: Of the total of 83 patients with GC, between 2021 and 2023, 35 eligible to form the study sample were included. Following the analysis of the FICA script, it was observed that in the “Faith or Belief” category, 44.44% of patients demonstrated that they had faith or belief in God and 26.38% considered spirituality as a positive factor in their lives. In the “Importance” category, 23.77% used faith as support to deal with psychological issues and 22.13% believed in the improvement of the clinical state through faith/belief in God. In relation to the “Community” category, 33.05% reported having spiritual support from a religious community and 26.27% found support related to family/friend ties. In the “Action” category, 40.0% of patients considered the medical/health team approach to spirituality during treatment to be relevant and 31.42% denied the approach to spirituality during medical treatment. Conclusions: The analysis of spiritual anamnesis revealed that spirituality had positive impacts on patients with GC under PC, playing, for the majority, a significant supporting role at the time of diagnosis and throughout the treatment of the disease.

Introdução: Cuidados paliativos são descritos como um conjunto de terapêuticas que visam minimizar as implicações negativas das doenças graves que ameaçam a vida e o bem-estar do indivíduo acometido. A progressão da doença e a sintomatologia provocam uma deterioração gradual e generalizada do estado do doente, e os sintomas físicos ocasionam a perda progressiva da capacidade funcional que, associados às manifestações emocionais pelo momento em que o paciente se encontra, impactam a sua qualidade de vida. Objetivo: Correlacionar a capacidade funcional com a qualidade de vida de pacientes oncológicos em cuidados paliativos. Método: Estudo transversal de abordagem quantitativa com 225 indivíduos. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário sociodemográfico, do índice de Barthel e do European Organization for Research in the Treatment of Cancer Questionnaire Palliative (EORTC QLQ-C15-PAL). Resultados: Dos 225 indivíduos elegíveis, observou-se homogeneidade entre a porcentagem de homens e mulheres, com média de 55,73±15,14 anos de idade. A análise estatística demonstrou associação positiva entre o escore do índice de Barthel e o escore de qualidade de vida do EORTC QLQ-C15-PAL com coeficiente de 0,74 e nível significância de p<0,05, bem como correlação negativa para as subescalas funcional e de sintomas com coeficiente de -0,702 e -0,544, respectivamente. Conclusão: Há uma correlação significativa entre a capacidade funcional e a qualidade de vida em pacientes oncológicos em cuidados paliativos.

Background This study aimed to evaluate the risk and protective factors associated with anxiety and depression symptoms in cancer patients at an advanced stage of cancer. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on patients with advanced cancer who were receiving palliative care. Cancer patients aged 18 years or older, with preserved cognitive function who completed the questionnaires were eligible. The questionnaires of Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and health related of quality of life questionnaire; the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC-C30) were applied. Outcome variables were the depression and anxiety symptoms of cancer patients under palliative care, according to the answers to the 14 items that make up the HADS Scale. The analysis used the R software, version 4.2.0. Results Seventy cancer patients with advanced cancer were included. The colon was the most common neoplastic diagnostic (20%), followed by breast (12.9%) and lung (10%). The prevalence of depression was 44.3%, 25.7% anxiety and 52.9% had both symptoms. Patients with a high level of functionality had a lower chance of anxiety (OR = 0.80;p = 0.025), depression (OR = 0.82; p = 0.007), and anxiety and depression (OR = 0.82p = 0.008). We observed a lower chance of depression and depression/anxiety who showed a high level of Overall Performance. Three symptoms increased the chance of depression/anxiety: nausea/vomiting (p = 0.019), fatigue (0.031), loss of appetite (0.048). Conclusion This study found high prevalence of anxiety and depression.Better quality of life and functionality were negatively associated with these outcomes. Examining the patient’s functions will assist the clinician in alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression, giving cancer patients in palliative care more dignity.
