Auxin synthesis in Agrobacterium tumefaciens and A. tumefaciens-transformed plant tissue

Abstract: Problems of IAA biosynthesis, IAA precursors and IAA biosynthetic pathways in Agrobacterium tumefaciens-transformed plant tissue, especially in tobacco tissue culture are reviewed . The knowledge about levels of IAA and the IAA biosynthetic pathways in Agrobacterium tumefaciens itself is also summarized.

“…The virulent strain C58 was previously reported to elicit production of twice as much auxin as a strain without T-DNA-encoded oncogenes (Kutacek and Rovenska, 1991). We confirmed this finding under our experimental settings (C58, 0.31 nmol/g fresh weight versus GV3101 and 0.16 nmol/g fresh weight).…”

“…A similar pathway may exist in Streptomyes, and it could explain the detection of the two compounds. An alternative possibility is the existence of the IPvA pathway which has been reported in other bacteria (Manulis e t al., 1991 ;Kutacek & Rovenska, 1990). Even though we failed to detect the intermediates IPvA and IAAld, we did detect ILA, which is a common product of IPvA reduction, and IEt, which is a common product of IAAld reduction.…”

“…to produce IAA in the presence of T r p may result from several biosynthetic pathways. (Kutacek & Rovenska,, 1990) and tomato (Gibson et al, 1972). In the latter, it has been proposed that ILA might act as precursor of IAA through a pathway initially involving decarboxylation of the lactic acid to produce IEt (Gibson e t al., 1972).…”

“…An increase in the IAA ruut cytokinin concentration is fow1d in transfonncd cultures of many different species (6,11). The iaaM gene (gene I) encodes a tryptophan monooxygcnase that converts tryptophan to lAM (indole-3-acetrunide).…”
