Auxiliary device for calibration of roller pumps: development and experimental results

Abstract: The auxiliary calibration device has shown calibration results statistically equal to those obtained with a reference device in the laboratory environment. We have found less variability of hemolysis rates in the operating room, using the auxiliary device and we did not observe any influence of unbalanced rollers in the hemolysis rates.

“…The study included 86 patients divided into 4 groups according to the settings of the roller pump. For Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 the pump was adjusted using the dynamic calibration method with the aid of an auxiliary device (14), with the following calibration settings: Group 1 (n = 20) DCP = 75 mmHg; Group 2 (n = 24) DCP = 150 mmHg; Group 3 (n = 21) DCP = 300 mmHg; and Group 4 (n = 21) DCP = 450 mmHg.…”

“…An auxiliary calibration device (ACD) using disposable pressure transducers for adjustment of roller pumps during the dynamic calibration method was developed at the Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBE), UNICAMP. The device was designed to aid perfusionists to adjust roller pumps based on the calculation of the average measured pressure of the roller pump (14).…”
