Auxetic mechanical metamaterials: from soft to stiff

Abstract: Auxetic materials belong to a class of well-organized manmade materials that possess negative Poisson’s ratio when applied load. Typically, they consist of periodic unit cells that show low Young’s and bulk moduli due to their unique structure. Thus, most of the classical auxetic materials exhibit soft behavior. Recently, some of the works investigated auxetic materials with stiff mechanical behavior. In this paper, we review auxetic structures and design methods to design soft or stiff auxetic materials, as w… Show more

“…Metamaterial, especially photonic crystals, as a research hotspot in recent years, have a promising future in the preparation of TPV emitters [90][91][92][93][94][95]. Its precise geometry and dimensions are smaller than the wavelength at which it acts, thus allowing it to exert its influence on the wave [96][97][98][99].…”

“…Adidas has also recently launched some related sports products, as shown in figure 12(b), the soles and uppers are made of Auxetic structures. The auxetic structures in the soles have a higher cushioning capacity because they produce a higher energy absorption capacity [86,87].…”

“…As research has progressed, negative Poisson's ratio materials have attracted attention from researchers. However, up to now, only a limited number of negative Poisson's ratio materials have been discovered [15], including arsenic, black phosphorus, InS single crystal, and some 2D auxetic materials such as graphene, MoS 2 , InN and TlCuSe [16][17][18][19][20][21][22].…”
