Infrared thermography (IRT) is a technique used to diagnose Photovoltaic (PV) installations to detect sub-optimal conditions. The increase of PV installations in smart cities has generated the search for technology that improves the use of IRT, which requires irradiance conditions to be greater than 700 W/m2, making it impossible to use at times when irradiance goes under that value. This project presents an IoT platform working on artificial intelligence (AI) which automatically detects hot spots in PV modules by analyzing the temperature differentials between modules exposed to irradiances greater than 300 W/m2. For this purpose, two AI (Deep learning and machine learning) were trained and tested in a real PV installation where hot spots were induced. The system was able to detect hot spots with a sensitivity of 0.995 and an accuracy of 0.923 under dirty, short-circuited, and partially shaded conditions. This project differs from others because it proposes an alternative to facilitate the implementation of diagnostics with IRT and evaluates the real temperatures of PV modules, which represents a potential economic saving for PV installation managers and inspectors.

Sự cạn kiệt của nguồn năng lượng hóa thạch có thể dẫn đến viễn cảnh hệ thống điện mặt trời được lắp đặt phổ biến với độ thâm nhập cao tại các phụ tải thương mại và dân dụng. Do đó, chất lượng điện áp và chỉ tiêu tổn thất công suất trong lưới điện phân phối có thể bị ảnh hưởng tiêu cực. Bài báo trình bày phương pháp giải quyết vấn đề này sử dụng lý thuyết độ nhạy điều chỉnh tổn thất công suất và thuật toán di truyền. Phương pháp sẽ xác định một số vị trí hệ thống điện mặt trời trong lưới điện và điều chỉnh công suất phát của các hệ thống đó tại từng thời điểm. Kết quả cho thấy phương pháp giúp giảm thêm gần 50% lượng tổn thất công suất tác dụng trên lưới điện phân phối so với khi không áp dụng. Hiện tượng quá áp cũng được khắc phục và giảm thiểu. Bài báo kết luận phương pháp đề xuất đáp ứng được mục tiêu đề ra và có thể góp phần thực hiện tiến trình lắp đặt điện mặt trời hàng loạt trong lưới điện phân phối. Mô phỏng được thực hiện với lưới điện phân phối 22kV khu vực Hà Nội sử dụng phần mềm MATLAB 2016a và thư viện MatPower 7.1.

Long‐term reliability assessment of photovoltaic (PV) modules is key to ensuring the economic viability of PV systems. This paper presents a multi‐pronged performance degradation analysis of a 62.1 kWp solar PV power plant after 9.5 years of operation. For this purpose, various diagnosis techniques, namely, visual inspection, infrared thermography (IR), ultraviolet fluorescence (UVFL) and current‐voltage (I‐V) characterization, have been performed to evaluate the performance and degradation of the solar PV power plant. The visual characterization results show that the PV strings are affected by different mechanisms with different degrees of occurrences. The degradation mechanisms observed and the level of occurrence among the modules were found to be, encapsulant discolouration (100%), degraded frame adhesive (57%), degraded junction box adhesive (39%), snail trails (30%), burn marks (3%), cell cracks (2%) and delamination (0.4%). Although discolouration of the encapsulant was the most common possible degradation mechanism observed, the main causes of the power loss were snail trails and cracks in the PV cells. Furthermore, the IR thermography and UVFL analysis provided better understanding on snail trails phenomenon and crack mechanism on the affected PV modules. Besides imaging techniques, to assess the electrical performance of the system, we performed current‐voltage (I‐V) and power‐voltage (P‐V) characterization of the entire PV plant from which the degradation rates of the electrical parameters were determined. Our results show that the degradation rates for the maximum power and the fill factor are 0.84%/year and 0.66%/year, respectively, over the operating period of the installation. The estimated maximum power degradation rate for this installation could be considered as a realistic degradation rate for PV modules installed in harsh and hot desert climatic conditions. Additionally, our work has raised doubts about the validity of the warranties proposed by the manufacturers.
