Automatic Texture Acquisition for 3D Model Using Oblique Aerial Images

Abstract: This paper describes an approach for automatic texture acquisition obtained from 3D city model and oblique aerial images. Firstly, the image feature lines should be extracted. Secondly, the extracted lines are matched with the corresponding 3D feature lines of object-space from the 3D city model, by estimating the image-space position of the 3D lines with the coarsely provided Exterior Orientation (EO) parameters of the image. Then, for each corresponding lines, we could list two equations based on the coplana… Show more

“…Photogrammetric surveys was carried out with a full-format Nikon D700 (4256x2832 pixels) camera with calibrated 90mm lens. Each image was georeferenced with the so called 'photo-GPS' technique [9], where RTK-GPS measures of the camera positions and image are acquired together. For each position a set of images was acquired with 'photo-GPS' system, maintaining the same coordinates of image location while the orientation angles changed.…”

“…Though oblique images have been used for texturing and visualization for many years (Frรผh et al, 2004;Grenzdรถrffer et al, 2007;Wang et al, 2008a), their use for measurement purpose is relatively new. Height calculation of an object from an oblique image is described in (Hรถhle, 2008).…”

“…Despite the popularity of 2D maps, 3D Photorealism has long been the interest to present city information and recent technical advances such as oblique photogrammetry technology (Frueh et al 2004;Wang et al 2008) make it more popular. Unlike traditional 2D maps that provide an aerial view of the geographic world by flat symbols that vary in shape, colour and label, photorealistic 3D representations (e.g., Google Earth, NASA World Wind) present objects in three dimensions and can thus provide more information.…”
