Automatic generation of optimal road trajectory for the rescue vehicle in case of emergency on mountain freeway using reinforcement learning approach

Abstract: Rapid rescue response has the highest priority in case of emergency randomly happening on the freeway network, which allows rescue vehicles to have many trajectory options. Searching for the fastest way is not easy within a short time after traffic accident happens especially for the mountainous area with special characteristics such as limited traffic capacity, enclosed internal space and so on. Here, road segment model is proposed to determine smallest road segment covering possible rescue ways. Other than t… Show more

“…It can be applied to large road networks based on IoVs technique. Meanwhile, there still exist some limitations to be further studied: (1) How to design a route coordination mechanism that can produce Pareto optimization (shorter driving time and higher vehicle fairness) in mathematical; (2) Vehicular network simulation is expected to verify the validity of this work's contributions compared with the numerical experiments, which is too small and needs to be extended; (3) The definition of vehicular fairness coefficient can be improved by professional psychological research. To perfect the fairness mechanism-based CVRG theory, it is necessary to future study the fairness mechanism-based CVRG under various traffic scenarios.…”

“…Improving traffic management systems becomes a considerable challenge for city managers. Among the existing transportation technologies, vehicle route guidance (VRG) is regarded as one of the most effective methods to reduce traffic congestion by adjusting the traffic flow in space dimension [3].…”

“…Ricardo et al [24] proposed a modified architecture that leverages pointer networks to better address the Orienteering problem with time windows related to dynamic time-dependent constraints. Yang et al [25] used DRL to automatically generate the road trajectory for the rescue vehicle in case of an emergency on the mountain freeway. A summary of this part of the study reveals that the existing studies did not consider the difference between the time window dimension and the travel time dimension.…”
