Automatic Detection of Concrete Spalling Using Piecewise Linear Stochastic Gradient Descent Logistic Regression and Image Texture Analysis

Abstract: Recognition of spalling on surface of concrete wall is crucial in building condition survey. Early detection of this form of defect can help to develop cost-effective rehabilitation methods for maintenance agencies. This study develops a method for automatic detection of spalled areas. The proposed approach includes image texture computation for image feature extraction and a piecewise linear stochastic gradient descent logistic regression (PL-SGDLR) used for pattern recognition. Image texture obtained from st… Show more

“…For that reason, the use of other metrics seems to be necessary. Recall can be defined as the ratio of the total number of correctly classified positive examples divide to the total number of positive examples as in Equation (11). High recall indicates the class is correctly recognized (a small number of F N ).…”

“…In this method, PCA is used to compress TRF and neural network is used to estimate fracture depth. In 2019, Hoang et al [7] proposed a method for detection condition of concrete wall. This method uses image texture to evaluate the wall condition and uses logistic expression for pattern recognition.…”

“…There are many techniques proposed by researchers towards intensity detection apart from Dvorak and modified Dvorak techniques [17][18][19][20]. Feature-based techniques [11,12,21,22] are mostly focused on the geometric features of the TC images. Machine learning algorithms were introduced to solve many problems like image classification [12].…”
