Automatic Calibration System for Digital-Display Vibrometers Based on Machine Vision

Abstract: Considering the low efficiency during the process of traditional calibration for digital-display vibrometers, an automatic calibration system for vibrometers based on machine vision is developed. First, an automatic vibration control system is established on the basis of a personal computer, and the output of a vibration exciter on which a digital-display vibrometer to be calibrated is installed, is automatically adjusted to vibrate at a preset vibration level and a preset frequency. Then the display of the vi… Show more

“…Electrical measuring instrument (6) is installed on the holder (3), fixed in the frame (12) with mechanical clips (1). There is a fixed bracket (11) in the frame with HD Web camera with a resolution of 1080p (10), position of which is adjusted by the three axes. In order to avoid light interference on camera during video capturing, the frame is made light-proof.…”

“…The computer vision is used in systems where only visual way of measuring is possible. [9][10][11][12] In such systems, the display or the dial of the instrument is captured by a digital camera and then the elements of image are identified by means of their recognition. Many image recognition algorithms are presented, but due to the features of the machine vision the universal efficient algorithm has not yet been proposed.…”

“…Although the articles present algorithms and software solutions, most authors do not state how effective they are [ 21 ]. These works, where the topic of effectiveness is considered, provide information about the lack of 100% effectiveness [ 22 ] or about effectiveness at the level of 99.33% [ 23 ] or 99.75% [ 24 ]. Although these are relatively high efficiencies, in the solution presented in this article, thanks to focusing only on seven-segment displays, we managed to achieve 100% result recognition efficiency.…”

“…Therefore, calibrating a specified pressure gauge means hundreds of times of number recognition as well as comparison. Recently automatic gauge calibration (AGC) has received significant interest from engineers and computer scientists, as it holds promise to considerable labor costs saving [4], [5]. To calibrate a digital pressure gauge automatically, the numeric value displayed in the gauge should be recognized instantly with high accuracy.…”
