Automated Talairach Atlas labels for functional brain mapping

Abstract: An automated coordinate‐based system to retrieve brain labels from the 1988 Talairach Atlas, called the Talairach Daemon (TD), was previously introduced [Lancaster et al., 1997]. In the present study, the TD system and its 3‐D database of labels for the 1988 Talairach atlas were tested for labeling of functional activation foci. TD system labels were compared with author‐designated labels of activation coordinates from over 250 published functional brain‐mapping studies and with manual atlas‐derived labels fro… Show more

“…Due to the key role of the amygdala in emotion, ROI analyses for the left and right amygdala were performed for all contrasts. These ROIs were based on the Talairach Daemon database (Lancaster et al, 2000), which was also used to determine anatomical labels for the specific Talairach coordinates. Based on the study performed by Winston et al (2003), who used exactly the same task in healthy volunteers, specific ROIs were defined for the different contrasts.…”

“…2001), with the three‐dimensional solution space restricted to cortical gray matter, as determined by the probabilistic Talairach atlas (Lancaster et al. 2000). The standard electrode positions on the MNI152 scalp were used (Oostenveld and Praamstra 2001; Jurcak et al.…”

“…Only clusters surviving a Family-Wise Errorcorrected p < 0.05 were reported as significant. Peak Montreal National Institute coordinates were converted to Talairach space using a nonlinear transform (imaging.mrccbu.cam.ac.uk/downloads/MNI2tal/mni2tal-m), and the Talaraich Daemon client was used for the purpose of interpretation (Lancaster et al, 2000). According to the null hypothesis, no voxel-based difference in GM was expected.…”
