Automated segmentation and tracking for large-scale analysis of focal adhesion dynamics

Abstract: SummaryCell adhesion, a process mediated by the formation of discrete structures known as focal adhesions (FAs), is pivotal to many biological events including cell motility. Much is known about the molecular composition of FAs, although our knowledge of the spatio-temporal recruitment and the relative occupancy of the individual components present in the FAs is still incomplete. To fill this gap, an essential prerequisite is a highly reliable procedure for the recognition, segmentation and tracking of FAs. Al… Show more

“…Images were taken using the same microscope, camera and software and described above. Live-cell FA characteristics were measured as before (Hou et al, 2012;Wűrflinger et al, 2010) with the exception that FAs were grouped based on whether they were off or on collagen lines.…”

“…In [13], [14] we have proposed an algorithm for the tracking of focal adhesions (FAs) in wide-field microscopic images. It achieves a large number of consistently tracked FAs due to the correction of segmentation errors during tracking.…”
