Automated nucleated red blood cell count using the Mindray BC‐6800 hematology analyzer

Abstract: The Mindray CAL8000 automated hematology system, which is composed of the BC-6800 and the SC-120, yields a precise NRBC count and can replace the traditional MM method for obtaining accurate and reproducible NRBC counts in high-value samples, such as patient monitoring samples used to determine the necessity of transfusion therapy in thalassemia patients. Moreover, this method offers several advantages, including a faster turnaround time, labor savings, and cost effectiveness.

“…The value of NRBC% examination in BM has been also suggested by a previous study, where a differential proliferation index of NRBC was proposed for early/low‐risk patients with MDS, showing increased proliferation, and advanced/high‐risk patients with MDS . Besides that, BC‐6800 hematology analyzer has been previously recognized for its accurate and reproducible NRBC counts in high‐value samples, such as patient monitoring samples used to determine the necessity of transfusion therapy in thalassemia patients . Thus, although NRBC% was integrated in the final SS, it was associated with a lower point‐system value due to its nonsignificant correlation coefficient.…”

“…Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation of the different instruments’ test results (R, correlation coefficient). The consistency analysis of the results was evaluated by Passing-Bablok analysis and weighted Deming analysis, and the proportional and constant systematic errors were evaluated by the slope and intercept, with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) [ 14 ]. The bias and 95% agreement limit of CRP value were evaluated by Bland-Altman analysis and calculated as the mean difference between the instruments.…”

“…While manual microscopy is an established reference method for blood cell counts, it has a huge requirement for experienced manpower, and has low precision and efficacy, and is thus not suitable for the clinical setting (6,7). Automatic blood cell analyzers can combine resistance with flow cytometry to ensure accuracy and repeatability of clinical specimen results, and thus may be more suitable for clinical applications.…”

“…With advancements in instrument technology, the function of new blood cell analyzers has significantly increased, and the structure and principles are also more complex. To ensure that the performance of an automatic blood cell analyzer meets the clinical requirements, many committees and research institutes have developed standards and guidelines to facilitate the evaluation of instrument parameters and performance (5,7).…”
