“…WMD, also known as choroidal neovascularization, is characterised by abnormal growth of the choroidal vascular structure into or around the macula. These new vessels are weak and easily bleed [41]. Achieving good performance in segmenting thin vessels suggests it is better to improve the overall accuracy by pursuing higher sensitivity while maintaining the same or sacrificing only a small fraction of specificity.…”

“…Drusen area were analyzed and drusen are classified as large drusen, medium and small drusen in [29,34]. A number of methods have been proposed in [35][36][37][38][39][40] which are focused on drusen pixel level classification to segment regions in the image as drusen and non drusen, and analyze the accuracy as sensitivity and specificity of the method with hand labelled ground truth images. Our study only found two publications -one for automatic detection of dry and wet AMD [41] and one for soft and hard drusen classification [29] which are very important information for automated measurement of AMD severity. In addition, these studies were not validated against large dataset.…”

“…Priya and Aruna [41] proposed a method for dry and wet AMD detection using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN). DWT is used to obtain the coefficients in horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions.…”

“…The algorithm achieved 95.6% accuracy but the technique was limited to the drusens located at macular region. In [9] probabilistic neural network was used to classify the disease as wet or dry. [10] Proposed a method to detect drusen by applying Gabor filter on an image.…”
