Abstract:Flowcytometric analyzer is a rapid, high throughput device which needs less expertization for the diagnosis of malaria. Hence, it can be used in the diagnostic laboratories as an early modality for diagnosis of malaria in suspected as well as clinically in apparent cases.
“…[1] This is the first report on using automated hematology analyzer for help diagnose and differentiate malaria and dengue from other infections. [2][3][4] The common parameters that seem to be specific for malaria include lymphocyte and platelet parameters. The feasibility of using hematology analyzer is very interesting.…”

“…[1] In fact, the use of automated hematology analyzer for determination of malaria and dengue has been in trials for a long time. [2][3][4] The fair diagnostic properties (sensitivity and specificity) of the automated hematology diagnosis can be observed. If this approach is effective, it might help diagnose the diseases for the practitioners who have no experience with two tropical infections.…”

“…The feasibility of using hematology analyzer is very interesting. [2][3][4] Mohapatra et al proposed that the use of hematology analyzer resulted in "a rapid, high throughput device which needs less expertization for the diagnosis of malaria." Focusing on malaria, there are previous reports on using Cell-Dyn ® , Coulter ® GEN·S as well as LH750 automated hematology analyzers.…”

“…[2,3] Analysis of the confirm cases records showed that ages ranged from 7 to 50 years with only 21% (7/33) in the 0-14 years range [ Table 1]. A total of 33 sera (89.2%) had elevated levels of HEV IgM consistent with recent infection, only one (2.7%) had elevated levels of HEV IgG without HEV IgM indicating a past infection, and three (8.1%) were negative for HEV antibodies.…”

Using SYSMEX analyzers, Pv, Po, and Pm infections are easy to ascertain as DIFF scattergrams are almost specific (specificity = 99.9%). Pf infection diagnosis by CBC may be a more promising tool.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
