“…The use of AHCT for patients with HRL is supported by the published experience of a number of groups, including the Hopital Pitie-Salpetriere group, [20][21][22] the City of Hope, 23,24 the AIDS Malignancy Consortium, 25 the Italian Cooperative Group on AIDS and Tumors, 26,27 the Spanish cooperative groups GELTAMO and GELSIDA, 28 and a retrospective review from the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation Lymphoma Working Party registry. 28 The number of patients who received transplants in these publications ranges from 11 to 68.…”

“…28 The number of patients who received transplants in these publications ranges from 11 to 68. These largely retrospective trials demonstrate a treatment-related mortality (TRM) ranging from 0% to 7.5% and overall survival (OS) rates of 39% to 85% for patients with chemotherapy-sensitive, relapsed, and persistent HRL.…”

“…67 Earlier studies investigating SCT often excluded patients who have been HIV þ , although subsequent studies have demonstrated that outcomes in these patients are not inferior to those of HIV À patients (Table 6). 16,68 Balsalobre et al 69 published data on 68 patients with HIV-related lymphoma reported to the EBMT who had undergone auto-SCT with BEAM (95.5%)-or TBI-(4.5%) based regimens; 8 patients (16%) had BL or BLL. For the entire cohort, PFS and OS were 56.5 and 61%, respectively.…”

“…Nevertheless, a significant difference in ASCT outcome has been reported in the literature, mainly as a result of a selection of the patients included in the studies [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Focusing in particular on two of these trials, among the 14 patients included in the study by Gabarre and colleagues [4], only 4 patients were in complete remission at 49 months and one presented lymphoma relapse at 36 months after ASCT.…”

“…Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) has acquired a well-established role in the setting of HIV-positive patients affected by relapsed or partially responding lymphoma (RPRL) [1][2][3][4][5][6]. In this population, ASCT has proved to be an effective, feasible, and safe procedure ensuring comparable survival outcomes in both HIV-positive and negative individuals [7].…”
