Autologous Fat Grafting in Facial Volumetric Restoration

Abstract: The authors reported their surgical experience about structural fat grafting in the management of facial volumetric deficit. The purpose of this study was to assess the real indications, cosmetic results, complications, and global patient satisfaction of the Coleman technique in redefining facial contours in congenital and postoperative deformities. A retrospective analysis of 32 patients grafted according to Coleman's technique was performed, and the long-term outcomes and patient satisfaction were evaluated.… Show more

“…Studying fat grafted areas with MRI-imaging and histological examination would have conclusively proven fat hypertrophy, hyperplasia and any increase in extracellular tissue components. Facial fat grafting in orthognathic surgery cases has been over the past few years [7]- [12] an easier alternative or additive armamentarium to the heavier osteotomy operations particularly when patient occlusion is acceptable or correctable in dental clinics.…”

“…Additionally, it is frequently available as autologous and thus without immunogenicity issue. Moreover, its soft and dynamic nature makes it useful especially for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery [1]. Although adipose tissue grafting is a well-known technique to correct contour irregularities, quick absorption of fat at the site of application is a major concern for patients as well as clinicians [2].…”
