Autologous Fat Grafting

Abstract: Further in-depth knowledge will provide definite answers on fat graft survival; demonstrate safe methods to increase cell viability, grafting outcome predictability; and reliability; enhance safety; and strengthen the scientific and clinical establishment of this increasingly promising method.

“…The current study suggests that the complications of immediate breast reconstruction do differ depending on approach and that radiation therapy appears to modestly increase certain risks. Further research is necessary to determine whether the increasing use of acellular dermal matrices 42 and autologous fat grafting 43 in implant-based reconstruction or the use of delayed reconstruction approaches (including a staged, “delayed-immediate” approach to autologous reconstruction with transfer of the flap after radiation) may alter these risks 9444546 .…”

“…The increased vacuum increases the aspiration rate; however, a very high pressure may disrupt structural integrity of ASCs and other cells [76,77]. Additionally, cannula size and types of syringe needles also might affect the cell yield, size, and viability of harvested fat [78,79,80].…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, there are few publications of a prospective and controlled study investigating the use of lipofilling breast volumetry in the field of breast reconstruction. Careful analysis of the literature highlights the presence of several approaches to fat graft differing in harvesting, centrifugation or infiltration methods [32,33,34,35,36]. In particular, some authors strongly support the potential of stem cells for the purpose of increasing fat graft survival, indicating the enrichment of lipofilling with stem cells as the best alternative to major tissue augmentation [37,38].…”
