“…However even subclinical mercury exposure has been linked to autoimmune disease including CASPR/LGI1/VGKC syndromes, with multiple mechanisms for this pathogenesis proposed. 7 , 8 Pediatric data is evolving, but our patient's deviation from typical patterns of autoimmunity supports the potential for mercury's causative role in inducing this rare syndrome. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the youngest documented case of mercury-induced limbic encephalitis.…”

“…Therapies used in mercury-induced Morvan syndrome included, chelation therapy, corticosteroids, and/or IVIg with gradual resolution of symptoms within 6 months in most patients. 7 , 8 Our patient's symptoms were diffuse and lacked other organ involvement characteristic of primary mercury toxicity so chelation therapy was not administered. Furthermore, given incomplete response to steroids and IVIg, our patient was treated with Rituximab, previously reported to promote complete resolution of symptoms when glucocorticoids and IVIg alone were unsuccessful.…”

“…Like accidental spillage of a bottle of Hg beads, therapeutic use of mercuric iodide, use of skin whitener, and taking indigenous or ayurvedic medicine. [53][54][55][56][57] Similarly, Malkani et al noted anti-Purkinje cell cytoplasmic-type Tr antibody positivity in a case of elemental mercury toxicity presenting with cerebellar ataxia. 30 In a developing country like India, ayurvedic drugs containing Hg are still being used abundantly and the physician should never forget to take detailed drug history when a patient presents with such phenotype.…”

“…Mercury when bio-accumulated in the body system through various environmental sources produces several disease conditions in the body ( Guzzi et al., 2020 ). It has toxic effects on the reproductive, digestive, neurological and immune systems of the body ( Boujbiha et al., 2012 ; Oliveira et al., 2020a , b ; Lu and Khera, 2020 ; Mergler et al., 2007 ). Lead causes morphological, physiological and biochemical alterations in various organ systems of the human body ( Cassleman et al., 2020 ; AL-Megrin et al., 2020 ; Abdelhamid et al., 2020 ; Abdel Moneim, 2016 ).…”
