Autoimmune disorders in patients with T-cell lymphoma: a comprehensive review

Abstract: Autoimmune disorders can develop prior to, during or after the onset of TCL. The diagnosis of TCL should prompt early recognition of certain autoimmune disorders if clinical suspicion exists. A dysfunctional immune response in these patients may be responsible for the occurrence of autoimmunity. Conversely, autoimmune conditions might create a favorable milieu for T-cell lymphoma pathogenesis. Therefore, their presence should increase the suspicion of TCL in an appropriate clinico-laboratory context. There is … Show more

“…Concomitant autoimmune phenomena at time of diagnosis are observed in some PTCLs, most commonly in PTCLs with FH phenotype. (50) In our study, a wide spectrum of severe early irAEs, mostly occurring at sites uninvolved by TCL, were observed in both PTCL-FH and PTCL-NOS subtypes (Fig. 1).…”

“…Patients with lymphoma appear to have an increased risk of various autoimmune conditions, both hematological and non-hematological[ 5 ]. Among them, AITL is often accompanied by various immunological and hematological diseases, such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA), vasculitis, and autoimmune thyroid disease[ 6 ].…”

“…In patients with PRCA, cyclosporine A should be routinely prescribe, although we did not do so. Previous reports have suggested that PRCA associated with AITL is improved only with the treatment of AITL, which is chemotherapy[ 5 , 6 , 9 ]. Therefore, we started treatment with chemotherapy for AITL, but no direct treatment of PRCA.…”

“…NOTCH1 and NOTCH3 receptors have been reported to play a role in T-cell lymphoma development in patients with celiac disease. 27 Because only a few T-cell lymphomas have been found in patients with autoimmune diseases, 28 more cases are needed to understand the epidemiology, clinical and immunophenotypic features, and underlying mechanisms of T-cell lymphoma development in patients with autoimmune disorders.…”
