Abstract: Macroalgae, commonly known as seaweed, are foundational species in coastal ecosystems and contribute significantly to coastal primary production globally. However, the impact of macroalgal decomposition on benthic biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) after deposition to the seafloor remains largely unexplored.
