Autoaugmentation Mastopexy with an Inferior-Based Pedicle

Abstract: Mammaplasty for breast enhancement and correction of ptosis augmentation is described. Between 2002 and 2007, autoaugmentation mammaplasty was performed for 27 patients (age, 48 ± 7.3 years) using an inferior-based flap of deepithelialized dermoglandular tissue inserted beneath the breast parenchyma of a superior-based nipple-areolar complex pedicle. The results confirmed that autoaugmentation mammaplasty corrects ptosis while increasing the projection and apparent volume of the breast. The degree of inframamm… Show more

“…Van Deventer et al [4] reported nearby postoperative measurements generally but not at specific postoperative dates. Furthermore, these results are comparable to those obtained by Hönig et al [19]. They also reported a descent of the SN-N & N-IMF measurements by about 20% at 12 months postoperative.…”

“…From Ribeiro et al [9], we took the idea of the selfprosthesis: their flap is inferior-pedicle-based like ours but bent to enhance the lower pole and not superiorly fixed to enhance upper pole and to lift the breast: something similar has been recently also described by Hönig et al [10] but with a T-shaped incision and not with an L one.…”

“…The phenomenon of bottoming out has also been described following mastopexy or breast reduction alone [ 4 ]. Different techniques have been developed to try to prevent the problem including internal suspension of the pedicle and dermal and muscle fl aps [ 5 ]. The Acellular Dermal Matrix as a type of internal brassiere has also been employed to support the inferior pedicle and has been shown to reduce the occurrence of bottoming out [ 6 -8 ].…”
