Autism Spectrum Disorders and the New Testament: Preliminary Reflections

Abstract: The dramatic increase in the diagnosed incidence of Autism Spectrum Disorder conditions presents a challenge for those within Christian communities who are committed to "thinking biblically" about all matters of faith and life. The problem is not identified as such within the Bible, and those who wish to think about it biblically must engage in a more reflective interpretive process that asks how it might be considered in the light of relevant themes and values in the biblical writings.
