Electoral fraud is identified as an albatross on genuine democratisation in Nigerian politics. The Nigerian political culture demonstrates a zero-sum game where a winner takes all and where a winner employs all amoral ineptitude to secure victory. The situation is escalated at the grassroots level in the country where the constitutional three-tier of the federal, state and local system was bastardised by the states who succeeded in emasculating the local governments under their absolute personal control. The local council polls usually turned into a charade that is perpetuated by charlatans in the name of elections where in reality, forceful imposition, selection and subversion of the process became the order of the day. The study examined how the use of SIECs aided the phenomenon of electoral fraud at the grassroots level where the local council elections are designed and arrested by state governors based on their selfish desire. The study utilised both primary and secondary sources of data. The data obtained were analysed and interpreted using mixed method of statistical tools and content analysis. The study discovered that the SIECs became tools in the pawn of the state governors that they leveraged in manipulating the local government elections against the will of the electorates at the grassroots and that has tremendously affects the democratisation process in the country where authentic institutional building remains a mirage even after more than 20 years of democratic experiment. The study recommends that the SIECs should be abrogated and the INEC should conduct the local council elections together with the national elections at the same time.

This study investigates the effects of election postponement on the outcome and performance of the 2019 General Election, as well as practices of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Process of Electoral Conduct in Nigeria. The study adopts a case study design and utilizes a qualitative approach in which both primary and secondary data were collected/engaged. The data were analysed and interpreted, using thematic analytical process. The main findings reveal that postponement of general election in Nigeria is gradually becoming the norm and/or a re-occurrence practice. It was also found that the postponement did impact negatively on the outcome and performance of the same, arising from low voters’ turnout. Crucially, it also observes that the country suffered economic loss worth billions of Naira. The study suggests a fully funded and equipped INEC with all its needs and logistics provided and three months to a year period provided, before elections are conducted could be an important panacea.

This article seeks to represent the role of Star Link mission about the internet which leads to access without any surveillance by authoritarian governments in the region. The Space X Company launches its mission under the name Star Link. Its mission is to send satellites to space in order to crumble many borders and limitations of accessing to the internet across the world. The question of this article is that how did authoritarian governments control the media? And what can they do after the completion of the Star Link mission? This study is qualitative in nature. Author relied on secondary sources such as journal articles, periodicals, books and websites for data retrieval. The analysis highlights that Star Link strives to establish a new platform of the internet which is based on satellite signals from outside the globe which no more government can put any surveillance on it and no limitation will be in front of its users Current study establishes that if this mission accomplishes its goals, it would be a huge danger for the authoritarian governments which may even lead to the overthrow of governments via shutting down the internet or interfering in it. The indings could be useful for governments to manage their rules and regulations and manage due control on their resources.
