Author's Reply to Correspondence the Alteration of the Form of Madras Harbour.

Abstract: in reply, stated that fresh water was used for gauging the test briquettes. The local cement was manufactured by the dry process in a rotary plant supplied by Messrs. Smidth and Company, of Copenhagen, the cylinder of which was 72 feet long and 6 feet in diameter. The calorific value of the fuel used in burning the clinker was 6,380 calories per pound, and its average analysis was :-Volatile matter 27-20
