Authentication of forensic DNA samples

Abstract: a b s t r a c tWe study regular expressions that use variables, or parameters, which are interpreted as alphabet letters. We consider two classes of languages denoted by such expressions: under the possibility semantics, a word belongs to the language if it is denoted by some regular expression obtained by replacing variables with letters; under the certainty semantics, the word must be denoted by every such expression. Such languages are regular, and we show that they naturally arise in several applications s… Show more

“…The artificial DNA can be planted in and around crime scenes or applied to nearby objects or enmeshed with genuine human tissues (Frumkin et al, 2010;Melchior et al, 2008). To resolve the issue and authenticate the forensic DNA samples, sodium bisulfite treatment of DNA, followed by MSP or cloning and Sanger sequencing can be carried The DNA is spotted as a dot in the nylon membrane and then primary antibody is blotted, which is followed by a secondary antibody conjugated with horse radish peroxidase enzyme.…”

“…The addition of enzyme's substrate such as 3'-3' diamino benzidine (DAB) produces a pink precipitate. Alternatively, a fluorophore-tagged secondary antibody (Alexa Fluor Ab) can be used to visualize the presence of methyl group out, which distinguishes the in vitro generated DNA versus genuine DNA (Frumkin et al, 2010).…”

“…Niedawne badania epigenetyczne całego genomu pokazały skuteczność tej metody przy identyfikacji zmian o złożonych cechach u bliźniąt monozygotycznych [3]. Markery epigenetyczne pozwalają także na identyfikację płynów i tkanek ustrojowych, dokładne określanie wieku oraz wykrywanie sfabrykowanych dowodów DNA [12,[15][16][17].…”

“…Recent genome-wide epigenetic studies displayed the power of this design to identify epigenetic changes with complex traits in monozygotic twins [3]. The epigenetic markers also enable to identify body fluid and tissue, identify the age accurately and detect fabricated DNA evidence [12,[15][16][17].…”

“…Fingerprints are the most widely used biometric feature for identification person and verification in the field of biometrics 5 and used in forensic divisions worldwide for criminal investigations 3 , as well as DNA has become the gold standard of forensic testing and is an invaluable tool for the criminal 6 . Both of them used as the most accurate in forensic identification, what is more that the DNA can also as a gold standard for paternity testing 7,8 .…”
