Abstract:Modern healthcare research has only in recent years investigated the impact of health care workers' religious and other moral values on medical practice, interaction with patients, and ethically complex decision-making. Thus far, no international data exist on the way such values vary across representatives of several national research groups came together and worked at optimizing the survey instrument for future use on the basis of the existing datasets. Research groups were identified through personal contacts with researchers requesting to use the instrument, as well as through two literature searches. Data were assembled in Stata and synchronized for their comparability using a matched intersection design based on the items in the original questionnaire. With a few optimizations and added modules appropriate for cultures more secular than that of the United States, the survey instrument holds promise as a tool for future comparative analyses. The pool at this stage consists of data from eleven studies conducted by research teams in nine different countries over six continents with responses from more than 6000 health professionals. Inspection of data between groups suggests large differences in religious and other moral values across nations and cultures, and that these values account for differences in health professional's clinical practices.

“…In einer Untersuchung zu den Ausdrucksformen der Spiritualität bei 2.468 jungen Erwachsenen (Altersmittel 18 ± 2 Jahre), von denen sich 73 % als nicht-religiös bezeichnen würden (Büssing et al 2016), konnte bestätigt werden, dass religiös geprägte Aspekte von Spiritualität bei ihnen von geringem Interesse waren; Transzendenz-Überzeugungen waren etwas stärker ausgeprägt (moderater Ausprägungsbereich), eine existenzialistische Suche nach Weisheit/Einsicht deutlich stärker und ein bewusster Umgang mit anderen/Mitgefühl von größter Bedeutung. In diesen Untersuchungen hatten jungen Männer signifikant geringere Ausprägungs-Scores als junge Frauen (Büssing et al 2016).…”

ZusammenfassungWenn das Interesse an der institutionalisierten Religiosität scheinbar abnimmt, hat dann Ehrfurcht/Dankbarkeit als eher säkulare und individuelle Form einer wahrnehmenden anstatt kognitiv geprägten Spiritualität eine Bedeutung auch für junge Erwachsene? Wie ist dieser Aspekt von Spiritualität bei jungen Erwachsenen und Ordens-Christen (als Kontrast-Gruppe) ausgeprägt? Um diesen Fragen nachzugehen, wurden 1.622 Personen (60 % Frauen, 40 % Männer) aus unterschiedlichen Alters- und Rekrutierungsgruppen mit dem standardisierten Fragebogen zur Erfassung von Ehrfurcht/Dankbarkeit (GrAw-7) untersucht. Es zeigte sich, dass Gefühle staunender Ehrfurcht und daraus resultierende Dankbarkeit von allen hier untersuchten Personen- und Altersgruppen erlebt werden, jedoch in divergenter Ausprägung, wobei die älteren Ordens-Christen die höchsten Scores hatten und die jungen Erwachsenen die niedrigsten. Auch von Personen ohne Religionszugehörigkeit (bzw. solchen, die gemäß Selbsteinschätzung weder religiös noch spirituell sind) wurde Ehrfurcht/Dankbarkeit empfunden, jedoch signifikant geringer als von Personen mit Religionszugehörigkeit (bzw. mit einer Selbsteinschätzung, spirituell und/oder religiös zu sein). Diese perzeptive Form der Spiritualität kann als Achtsamkeit dem Augenblick gegenüber aufgefasst werden, für die sensibilisiert werden kann. Sie bedarf keiner spezifischen religiösen Ausrichtung oder Weltanschauung und könnte eine gesellschaftlich und individuell relevante Ressource gerade in säkular geprägten Gesellschaften darstellen.

Abstract:To cover a wider variety of specific aspects of spirituality, which are of relevance also in secular societies, the ASP ("Aspects of Spirituality") questionnaire was developed. While it was used so far with healthy adults and with adolescents living in a secular society, it was meanwhile used also with Polish students who were predominantly Catholic. Here we compare the factorial structure of the ASP questionnaire in a sample of 871 German (73% non-religious) and 1,017 Polish adolescents/young adults (50% non-religious despite their Catholic denomination). The factorial structure of the ASP questionnaire with its four scales Religious Orientation: Prayer/Trust in God, Search for Insight/Wisdom, Conscious interactions/Compassion, Transcendence Conviction, were similar in the sample of German students and in the Polish students. By means of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) we were able to use the number of items of the ASP in its student version (ASP-Students).
