“…Two trials were doubleblinded 34,35 and six trials were single-blinded. 31,36,[39][40][41][42] Acupuncture versus control of lifestyle Reduction in severity of obesity measured by a mean difference for changes in body weight or in BMI. With respect to reduction in severity of obesity, combining five studies (237 participants) that provided data on body weight (kg) using a fixed effects model produced a weighted MD in favor of acupuncture compared to control of lifestyle such as diet, exercise or qigong (pooled MD ¼ 1.72 kg, 95% CI ¼ 0.50-2.93) (Figure 2).…”

“…Study results reported statistically significant within-intervention group effects for all BW, BMI, and WC with auricular acupressure (BW [ 60 , 61 , 64 66 , 71 ]; BMI [ 56 , 60 , 61 , 64 66 , 71 ]; WC [ 60 , 61 , 64 , 65 ]), combined auricular acupressure and TEAS [ 63 ], combined auricular acupressure and exercise [ 68 ], and body acupuncture [ 67 , 70 ]. Additionally, study results reported statistically significant within-intervention group effects for both BW and BMI with TEAS [ 62 ] and combined body acupuncture and massage [ 76 ].…”

“…After 8 weeks of ear acupressure treatment, BMI decreased significantly by 0.7. 15 After being treated with electroacupuncture at auricular acupoints plus body acupoints for 20 days, there was a 4.7% weight reduction in patients with obesity, whereas patients in a diet restriction group had a 2.9% weight reduction. 19 A statistically significant drop in WC during a 9-week treatment using auricular acupuncture occurred in obese volunteers.…”

“…Several studies have shown that auricular acupuncture is a reasonable for treating patients who are overweight. [14][15][16][17] Auricular acupuncture points for treating obesity are: Shenmen, Spleen, Mouth, Stomach, Endocrine points, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, and Hunger. [17][18][19][20][21] There are also other acupoints used to treat obesity; however, not all of them were used in the current study because of the practical procedures required in the hospital.…”
