Objectives-A retrospective analysis of injuries caused by vehicles that were reversing or rolling backwards to establish guidelines for prevention was performed. Patients and methods-Medical records and questionnaires completed by parents for 32 children admitted to the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Graz, within the past eight years, were analysed. Results-The median age was 2.1 years (1.0-14.0 years). Fourteen of 32 of the cars were driven by family members (43.8%); three were rolling backwards without a driver (9.4%). The median injury severity score was 3 (1-27) and the most common injuries were contusions (40.6%), fractures (31.3%), and lacerations/burns (21.9%). Most incidents occurred in driveways (37.5%) or farmyards (21.9%). Altogether 70.3% of children sustained "runover" injuries, 29.6% were hit by the rear bumper or injured by a breaking window. Conclusions-Toddlers playing in driveways or farmyards are at risk of a injury caused by reversing vehicles/vehicles rolling backwards. (Injury Prevention 2001;7:327-328)

Int J Gynecol Cancer 1998; 8:119–123. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinicopathological features of ovarian carcinomas with metastases to mesenteric or mesocolic lymph nodes. Thirty patients with primary ovarian carcinomas metastatic to the bowel were analyzed for the extent of bowel infiltration, lymph node involvement, lymphatic channel involvement, and the number of examined lymph nodes. Metastases to mesenteric or mesocolic lymph nodes were found in 20 of the 30 patients. Metastases to mesenteric/mesocolic lymph nodes were more frequently associated with lymph vascular invasion at the site of the bowel implants and metastatic involvement of multiple bowel segments compared to mesenteric/mesocolic node‐negative cases ( P < 0.04). There was no significant difference between the mesenteric/mesocolic node‐positive and node‐negative patients with regard to FIGO stage, histologic type, tumor grade, residual tumor after surgery, gross pattern of bowel metastases, and involvement of retroperitoneal lymph nodes. While the presence of mesenteric/mesocolic lymph node metastases tended to be associated with shorter survival, this was not statistically significant. The prognostic and putative therapeutic importance of positive mesenteric/mesocolic lymph nodes in ovarian carcinoma awaits further evaluation in a larger number of cases.

Fragestellung dieser Studie war, die Ursachen und Folgen von Schwimmbadunfällen im Kindesund Jugendalter zu analysieren und Präventionsstrategien zu erarbeiten. Patienten und MethodeRetrospektiv wurden alle Kinder im Alter ≤=16 Jahre erfaßt, die zwischen Januar 1990 und Dezember 1997 an unserer Klinik wegen einer Schwimmbadverletzung behandelt wurden. Ertrinkungsunfälle werden nicht an unserer Klinik behandelt und wurden von der Studie ausgenommen. Retrospektiv wurden das Alter und das Geschlecht der verletzten Kinder sowie die Art der Verletzung analysiert [2].An die Eltern der betroffenen Kinder wurden Fragebögen mit detaillierten Fragen zu folgenden Punkten versandt: Spieldauer vor dem Unfall, Tätigkeit des Kinds unmittelbar vor dem Unfall, Unfallursache, evtl. beteiligte Sport-oder Spielgeräte, Anwesenheit von Begleitpersonen, Unfallzeitpunkt, Unfallort, gesundheitliche Unfallfolgen und Präventionsvorschläge.Die Daten werden als Mittelwert (Range) angegeben.
