Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applied in dentistry

Abstract: The OSCE is a reliable evaluation method to estimate the preclinical examination of dental students. The most ideal assessment for OSCE is used the augmented reality simulator to evaluate. This literature review investigated a recently developed in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) starting of the dental history to the progress of the dental skill. As result of the lacking of technology, it needs to depend on other device increasing the success rate and decreasing the risk of the surgery. The dev… Show more

“…These features present an educational opportunity that needs to be explored to determine if such features can enhance a student's ability to visualize teeth 3‐dimensionally as well as explore student perceptions of benefits and limitations. A recent study determined the use of 3D software had a positive effect on student performance; however, publications related to AR/VR in dentistry are very limited, and they are not specifically related to student education.…”

“…Augmented reality (AR) covers many research areas [1][2][3][4][5], including biomedicine, neurology and engineering. The implementation of these methods in stomatology [6][7][8][9][10][11] extends the medical study of real dental objects into the digital world. This paper describes how real dental objects can be replaced by their digital models in the present cyber-physical environment, which combines augmented and virtual reality [7].…”

This paper describes how real dental objects can be replaced by their digital models in the present cyber-physical environment, which combines augmented and virtual reality [7]. The efficiency of the use of AR in stomatology can be seen during surgical navigation [12], manipulation in implantology [13,14], and applications in maxillofacial surgery [15] as well.…”
