Augmentation of Atrazine biodegradation by two Bacilli immobilized on α-Fe2O3 magnetic nanoparticles

Abstract: In this study, a novel immobilizing carrier with α-Fe2O3 magnetic nanoparticles was developed and used for immobilization of atrazine-degrading bacterial isolates of Bacillus spp. Since the free cells of microorganisms generally not succeed to degrade pollutants; thus, extra treatments are alluring to make strides biodegradation. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images appeared that after immobilization the bacterial cells were totally retained and entirely distributed on the surface of α-Fe2O3 magnetic nano… Show more

“…Recently, several other alternative approaches have been developed, e.g. fluorescent probes to detect cell viability 6 , metabolic MTT assay 7 , enzyme-based LDH assays 8 , and luciferase transduced cell-based bioluminescence assays 9 . Even though these assays have provided insight into fundamental cellular behaviour, these studies are performed in bulk and generate averaged responses 10 .…”

“…They determined that this bacterial isolate could biodegrade the imidacloprid insecticide with an effective efficiency of over 90 %. Similarly, Khatoon et al [27] . used Bacillus bacteria species for the biodegradation of atrazine and optimization of the parameters used during these processes by RSM.…”
