AuxAg1–x Nanocomposites with 40-Fold Emission Enhancement Formed by the Electrostatic Assembly of Gold Nanoclusters and Silver Nanoclusters for Bioimaging and Bioanalysis

Abstract: Noble metal nanoclusters (NCs) have been widely used in bioimaging and bioanalysis due to their unique molecular-like structures and good biocompatibility. Bright nanomaterials with high quantum yields are in need for widespread applications. Unfortunately, the weak photoluminescence (PL) of metal NCs hampers their biomedical applications, and thus it is urgent to develop effective routes to enhance their brightness, especially in aqueous solutions. In this work, we reported a facile strategy to prepare highly… Show more

“…ment to existed metal NC-based AIE systems [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] and metal NC-based gels. [21][22][23][24][25][26] The MOGs are formed solely by Ag 9 NCs without the assistance of any organic gelator, indicating a high content of the metal NCs in MOGs.…”

“…Recently it was found that some metal NCs underwent aggregation-induced emission (AIE), [4] a phenomenon first discovered in organic molecule with a propeller-like structure. [5] Typical AIE examples include Au, [6] Ag, [7][8][9][10][11][12] Cu [13] NCs and some hybrids, [14] which greatly enriched the system of AIE. Besides, new photoluminescent (PL) properties have been distinguished, such as the fluorescence-to-phosphorescence (F-P) switching.…”

“…29 Some typical AIE examples include Au, 30 Ag, 31,32 and Cu nanocrystals 33 and their hybrids. 34 The reported AIE from the coordinated metal nanocrystals was carried out in either dilute aqueous solution or organic solvent. 35 In 2017, the aggregation-induced electrochemiluminescence was reported for the first time in a pyridine-containing Pt(II) complex system.…”

“…Functional nanomaterials are drawing the attention of different scientific communities due to their unique mechanical, magnetic, electrical, and optical properties, which cannot be found in most of the corresponding bulk materials . In this scenario, noble metallic nanostructures are intensively investigated for a wide range of applications such as electronics, catalysis, photonics, sensing and biomedicine .…”
