Maize leaf weevil (Tanymecus dilaticollis Gyll) is the most dangerous pest of the maize crop in the south and southeast of Romania. Each year there were attacked one million hectares cultivated with maize were. In case of high pest pressure, weevils can destroy maize plants. After the ban on neonicotinoids, no active ingredients are available in Romania for maize seed treatments to control this pest. This study there were evaluated the effectiveness of three entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana (strains BbTd, BbTy), B. pseudobassiana (BpPA), and Metarhizium anisopliae (MaF), for controlling the T. dilaticollis weevils, in the greenhouse conditions, using high pest pressure (4 weevils/plant). It has sowed maize in plastic pots. After the plant's emergence, it added insects collected from the field and it was pulverized solutions with entomopathogenic fungus at each variant. It has assessed phytotoxicity, attack incidence (%), attack intensity on a scale from 1 (plants not attacked) to 9 (plants destroyed), plant heights, and weevils mortality at eight days after infections with entomopathogenic fungi. The conditions of the high pest pressure from the greenhouse it has registered lower weevils mortality. Only in the case of M. anisopliae (MaF) and B. bassiana (BbTy) weevils was mortality higher than 10 %. At all experimental variants from the greenhouse, attack incidence was 100 %, while attack intensity ranged from 8.75 in the control variant to 7.10 in the case of M. anisopliae (MaF) fungus. In this study, there weren’t significant statistical differences between control and treated variants concerning both weevils attack intensity and mortality (p<0.05).

In the last years sunflower become one of the most important crops in Romania. The most of the surface cultivated with sunflower from our country is located in south and south-east and, in many cases, sunflower is cultivated after maize. As result the attack of the maize leaf weevil (Tanymecus dilaticollis Gyll) at sunflower plants has increasing. The attack is dangerous when sunflower plants are in first vegetation stages . Similar with maize crop, sunflower seeds treatment with neonicotinoids were generalized after 2007. As result of the EU directive 485/2013, no active ingredients remain available for sunflower seeds treatment, against T. dilaticollis, in Romania. The researches from the last years were orientated for finding of the possible alternatives for seed treatments, in eventuality of permanent ban of neonicotinoid insecticides, after 2018. Because of the variability of climatic conditions from the field, during spring period, researches concerning effectiveness testing of sunflower seed treatments, in green house conditions, using high pest pressure is a good method to evaluate influence of the different active ingredients to control T. dilaticollis adults. In this experiment it has tested three doses of cyantraniliprole active ingredient (7.5, 10.0 and 12.5 l/to) and three neonicothinoid active ingredients (imidacloprid, clothianidin, thiamethoxam). Sunflower seeds were placed in plastic pots. After plants emergence the insects were added in pots. At each pot it has added 20 adult insects, collected from the field. Each day, it has recorded insect mortality. At 8 days from the start of the experiment, it has assessed attack intensity of the adult insects on sunflower plants. The attack was evaluated using a scale from 1 (plant not attacked) to 9 (plant complete destroyed). In conditions of high pest pressure (4 insects/plant) the attack intensity of T. dilaticollis at sunflower plants was ranged from 3.35 in case of variant treated with clothianidin and 8.50 in case of untreated plants. Lower attack intensity of the pest at sunflower plants it has registered in case of variants treated with imidacloprid and thiamethoxam (I=3.58 and 3.50). Plants emerged from the untreated seeds were destroyed by the insects, at 8 days from the start of the experiment.

The cultivation of sweet corn is accompanied by a number of plant protection problems. It is attacked by lot of pest, cause significant damage to the cobs, deteriorate the commercial properties and cause significant economic losses. In this regard, surveys were conducted in the period 2019-2020 in the sweet corn fields in the area of the village of Planinitsa, Burgas region, Bulgaria. Standard entomological methods were used to estimate pest densities. A mixture of plant extracts from walnut (Juglans regia L.), ailanthus (Ailanthus altissima Swing.) and tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) was tested against cotton bollworm caterpillars (Helicoverpa armigera Hübner).Sweet corn is attacked by a large number of omnivorous and specialized pests. Two critical periods are: Period I-phase 5 th -7 th leaf, in relation to weevils; and Period II-the paniclephenophase, when european corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hübner) and cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera Hübner) appear.In 2019, 5% of cobs were reported as damaged by corn borer and 35% -by cotton bollworm, and in 2020, 10% and 65%, respectively. The data from the obtained results show that the mixture of plant extracts exhibits good efficacy and can be included as an alternative means of controlling cotton bollworm in integrated plant protection systems.
