AtWAKL10, a Cell Wall Associated Receptor-Like Kinase, Negatively Regulates Leaf Senescence in Arabidopsis thaliana

Abstract: Receptor-like kinases (RLKs) constitute a large group of cell surface receptors that play crucial roles in multiple biological processes. However, the function of most RLKs in plants has not been extensively explored, and much less for the class of cell wall associated kinases (WAKs) and WAK-like kinases (WAKLs). In this study, analyses of developmental expression patterns uncovered a putative role of AtWAKL10 in modulating leaf senescence, which was further investigated at physiological and molecular levels. … Show more

“…In addition, we also determined the expression levels of senescence-related genes in different lines (Figure 7B). During plant senescence stage, the expression levels of WRKY45 and SAG genes (SAG12, SAG13 and SAG29) in transgenic plants were significantly lower than those of wild type, which was consistent with the results of previous studies [22,23]. These results suggest that GhTIP1;1-like may be involved in the regulation of plant reproductive growth and delaying senescence.…”

“…Likewise, the gene MA_373300g0010 identified by the GWAS of the tracheid traits in Norway spruce is likely similar to WAKs [7]. In Arabidopsis, WAKs proteins are involved in cell wall expansion of leaf and regulation of leaf senescence [70][71][72]. Therefore, WAKs are probably key proteins and regulators in tracheid development of the spruce.…”

“…Then the media were cultivated at 23°C with continuous light after being placed in a 4°C refrigerator for 2 days. Two weeks later, seedlings were transplanted to soil mixture, and kept in a growth chamber at 23°C with continuous light ( Li et al, 2021 ; Zhang et al, 2021 ). Leaves at different development stages were selected for gene expression analysis.…”
