Attitudinal and experiential correlates of anorgasmia

Abstract: Twenty-four orgasmic and 10 anorgasmic women, ages 21-40, provided continuous self-report measures of sexual arousal while viewing explicit videotape segments depicting a variety of sexual activities. Orgasmic ability in women has been associated with sexual assertiveness [24] and experience with masturbation [25]. In contrast, no relationship has been observed between anorgasmia and race, socioeconomic status, and educational or religious background [12••,26].…”

“…Furthermore, in other studies, masturbation has also been linked to the orgasmic response during coitus (Hite, 1976;Kelly, Strassberg, & Kircher, 1990; Kinsey et al, 1953); to the overall sexual desire (Zamboni & Crawford, 2002); to a higher number of cues that facilitate sexual desire (Carvalheira, Brotto, & Maroco, 2011); and to sexual satisfaction (Hurlburt & Whittaker, 1991). Masturbation is described as a factor that contributes positively to the woman's ability to enjoy sexual relationships (Bruijn, 1982).…”
