Good communication skills are of utmost importance in the education of engineering students. It is necessary to promote not only their education, but also to prepare them for the demanding and competitive job market. The purpose of this study was to compare the attitudes towards communication skills after formal instruction between the students of engineering studies in the first and sixth semesters. Data were collected using the Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS) which consisted of 14 items. The target population included 31 students of engineering studies who attended the communication skills course in the first semester, and 31 students of engineering studies who attended the same course just before the completion of the undergraduate study programme. The results are in accordance with previous studies suggesting that senior and more mature students have higher positive attitudes compared to the students at the beginning of their undergraduate studies. Although both groups had noticeable positive attitudes towards learning communication skills, negative attitudes should also be taken into consideration and an attempt should be made to decrease them.

The main objective of this study is to establish Teacher Quality model (TQM). The study also aimed to identify the relationships between teacher quality (TQ) and students' academic performance (SAP). Furthermore, the study also seeks to verify the relationships among TQ dimensions. Structural Equation Modeling was used to test the model. A total of 450 teachers from secondary schools in Kwara state, Nigeria completed the survey. The analysis yielded four dimensions for Teacher Quality, namely Teacher Knowledge; Communication Skills; Teacher Commitment and Classroom Management for the improvement of the students' academic performance. The findings show that TQ model will be of benefits to teachers in schools on how these skills can be used to improve students' academic performance. The result of the study also reveals that TQ dimensions were significant at increasing SAP. As the findings confirmed that the Teacher Quality (TQ) matters in determining students' academic performance (SAP) it is a sine qua non (condition) for school teachers to abreast themselves with the requisite qualities the teaching requires to improve students' academic performance which in turn increase the quality of education. The fits for the model were significant at >0.9. Also, TQ has a role to play in the school system for the realization of educational objectives. The findings encourage the school principal to establish development programme that will impacted positively on teachers' development for the benefits of the students so that their academic performance would be achievable.

A multidisciplinary group of teachers and scientists from the Faculty for Higher Education (FES) Zaragoza from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is dedicated to the continuous improvement of biochemistry teaching within the programme of chemistry, pharmacy and biology (QFB) at our University. To provide our teachers with modern teaching abilities is our top priority. Therefore, we offer various activities to promote their continuous scientific and didactic updating. We also encourage self-awareness on the strong need for continuous adaptation and utilization of information and communication technologies (ICT) that have become very popular among young generations. Teaching is not an isolated discipline. On the contrary, teaching is intimately related with social and economic circumstances. Teachers and students must be aware of their social environment, continuously improving their capability to approach national problems with an accurate utilization of national resources. Research and development have to be linked to the best teaching techniques that stimulate teachers and scientists to grow as educators and experimenters. Our scientific meetings and courses on scientific topics and teaching techniques have contributed not only to promote individual teaching and scientific capabilities but also to update the study programme from the QFB curricula at our University.
