“…However, our data is stable compared to previously published data in this area and our key outcomes are supported by the focus group data. 21,23,36,37 During the 12 months following the intervention, the students completed their final year of the bachelor of pharmacy program and undertook clinical placements, and many were employed in community pharmacies. We could not control for the influence of these outside factors on the results of this research.…”

“…Separation was measured using the 8-item Social Distance Scale (SDS), which is valid and reliable, in addition to two items derived from the literature. [33][34][35] Other subdomain measures were adapted from previously validated surveys 14,24,[36][37][38][39][40] or were generated by the authors based on the literature. All stigma subdomain items (N527) were measured on a 5-point Likert scale [strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5)], with higher numbers representing more negative attitudes.…”

The sum of these 10 items was used as an index of overall stigmatization, with higher scores indicating a more positive view toward individuals with a mental illness (ie, higher scores indicate lower stigmatization).…”

“…15 The lack of available services combined with negative views of pharmacy students indicate the need for further development of mental health education in pharmacy curriculums as well as evaluation of these educational methods. 5,8,[10][11][12][13][14] The purpose of this study was to determine the effect a mental health elective could have on students' perspectives and stigmatizing views. We predicted that completion of the mental health elective would increase students' familiarity with mental illness, thereby improving their attitude toward and beliefs about individuals with mental illness.…”
