Attitude as a Mediator between Acculturation and Behavioral Intention

Abstract: Results of the study may suggest that public health intervention strategies targeting condom use among immigrants should incorporate programs that improve English language training tailored to the cultural practices and values of the immigrants, and consider the effect of acculturation on condom use.

“…(2016), but is in line with Ebrahim et al. (2016). A possible explanation for this insignificant effect is that banking customers perceive that serious levels of environmental degradation are occurring, and their personal contribution may not be sufficient to reduce such degradation (Atik et al, 2020; Coombs, 2007; Rainforest Action Network, 2020) that makes AGB fail to motivate IGB (Ajzen, 2005, 2011; Bagozzi, 1992; Baumeister & Vohs, 2007).…”

“…(2016) found that AGB mediates the effect of collectivism on IGB. In contrast, Ebrahim, Davis, and Tomaka (2016) found that attitude did not mediate the effect of acculturation on the intention to use a blocking tool. This study addresses the conflicting findings through the examination of the mediating role of customer AGB in the effect of PCE on IGB.…”

“…Our research further highlighted culture care practices which should be maintained, such as valuing the patient's cultural identity, those which should be accommodated, such as availability of interpreter services, and those which should be restructured, such as promoting preventive care and health screenings, which is consistent with the findings of other studies (Adegboyega & Hatcher, 2017;Chaumba, 2011;Ebrahim et al, 2016;Hall & Cuellar, 2016;Wolf, Zoucha, McFarland, Salman, & Dagne, 2016). Barriers to screening may be due to factors such as, attitude, knowledge deficit, fatalistic beliefs, and fear (Adegboyega & Hatcher, 2017;Chaumba, 2011;Ebrahim et al, 2016). Communication can be considered fundamental for a patient's satisfaction and quality care.…”

“…The conceptualisation of health behaviour, as being the result of an individual decision-making process does not fully account for sociocultural and sociostructural factors, and the importance of social connectedness and integration, (Garcia, 2016;Yarbrough & Braden, 2001). The TPB construct of group-based elements, 'subjective norms' does not adequately explain broader issues such as gender difference and acculturation; highly salient issues within many migrant groups (Ebrahim, Davis & Tomaka, 2016).…”
