Objective: Depression is a growing public health problem, which needs more consideration in primary care settings. By focusing primarily on developmental psychology, attachment style is one of the most influential variables on the risk of internalized disorders. Although attachment styles have strong effects in emotional aspect of human mental life, emotional turbulence and dysfunction are considered as key factors in depression disorder. This study aimed to examine the effect of attachment styles on emotion recognition, emotion regulation, emotional perspective taking, and depression in multivariate space. To this end, attachment styles are considered as input separately; emotion recognition in three categories (neutral, negative, and positive), emotion regulation, and emotional perspective taking set as mediator of equation; and depression as an output.Methods: Participants were all high-school students, selected based on multistage random sampling method. Finally, 296 students participated in the study and all ethical issues included informed consent were approved by the Ethics Committee of University of Isfahan. Statistical analysis was done by AMOS 22 and SPSS 22. The study instruments were attachment styles questionnaire (ASQ) by Hazen and Shaver (1987), facial emotion recognition pictures by Ekman and Frizen (1978), emotion regulation skills questionnaire (ERSQ) by Berking and Znoj (2008), emotional perspective taking dilemmas, and Beck depression inventory (BDI-II) (1996). The data analysis was done using Structural Equation Modeling.Results: According to model fit indices of χ 2 = 2703.41, df = 1804, CFI = 0.86, and RMSEA = 0.04, this model relatively appropriate fit the adolescents girls sample, thus the main hypothesis of the study was confirmed. In addition, attachment styles have direct and indirect effects on depression. The indirect effect of attachment styles were mediated through emotion recognition, emotion regulation, and emotional perspective taking. Conclusion:Attachment styles have a strong and significant effect on emotional state and also probability of depression of adolescent girls. Children in secure relationship learn to recognize and regulate their emotions in addition to taking others' perspective about emotional filed. Thus, in facing high pressure situations of adolescence, they would experience lower levels of depression.

Estudio comparativo de los estilos de apego adulto en un grupo de mujeres con y sin diagnóstico de depresión ResumenNumerosos estudios han asociado los estilos de apego inseguros a distintas formas de psicopatología, entre ellas la depresión, en diversas etapas del ciclo vital. esta investigación tuvo como objetivo describir el estilo de apego de un grupo de pacientes de sexo femenino, diagnosticadas con depresión. se estudió a un grupo de 28 pacientes, comparándolos con un grupo de 28 mujeres adultas que no presentan la enfermedad, igualando a las participantes en relación a la edad. Los resultados mostraron diferencias significativas en los estilos de apego de ambos grupos. las pacientes diagnosticadas con depresión presentan, en su mayoría, estilos de apego inseguros (39.2%) e inclasificables (32.1%). Por su parte, el grupo de personas sin depresión presentan en su gran mayoría (85.7%) un estilo de apego seguro. Palabras clave: depresión, estilos de apego, apego adulto y psicopatología. Abstractseveral studies have linked the insecure attachment styles to different types of psychopathologies, i.e. depression, at diverse stages of the life cycle. this research aimed to describe the attachment style for a group of female patients diagnosed with depression. a group of 28 patients was analyzed and compared with a group of 28 female adults not presenting the psychopathology and with similar age range. Results show significant differences on the attachment style in within these two groups. the patients diagnosed with depression have, mainly, insecure attachment styles (39.2%) and cannot classify (32.1%). on the other side, the majority of the group of people without depression (85.7%) has a secure attachment style.

Investigation of depressive symptoms and related variables with depressive symptoms in alcohol and substance abusersObjective: It is aimed to evaluate the bonding and personality traits which are thought to affect the level of depressive symptoms in alcohol and substance abusers. Methods:The study sample consists of 289 patients diagnosed with alcohol and substance dependence, that have been followed up at inpatient or outpatient units of Ege University, The Institute on Drug Abuse, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Science and Ege University, Department of Psychiatry Alcohol/Drug Dependency Unit. In the study, sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory (ECRI) were applied by means of face to face interviews.Results: The mean age of the patients in the study was 32.5±11.0 years. It was found that 76.8% of the patients had high levels of depressive symptoms (BDI>17). It was determined that there was a significant difference between the level of avoidant attachment scores and depressive symptoms scores of the patients. In the evaluation of TCI scores according to BDI cut-off scores, it was found that depressive patients (BDI>17) have significant differences on the harm avoidance, cooperate and self-transcendence scores than those non-depressive patients (BDI<17). Conclusion:Our study showed that certain personality and bonding characteristics of the patient affected the depressive symptoms levels.
