Atorvastatin Inhibits High-Fat Diet-Induced Lipid Metabolism Disorders in Rats by Inhibiting Bacteroides Reduction and Improving Metabolism

Abstract: Purpose The prevalence of hyperlipidemia and related illnesses is on its rise, and atorvastatin is the frequently used hypolipidemic agent. However, there is still uncertainty about the mechanisms, especially the relationship between the lipid-lowering effect, intestinal microbiome, and metabolic profiles. We aim to intensively explain the mechanism of the hypolipidemic effect of atorvastatin through multi-omics perspective of intestinal microbiome and metabolomics. Methods … Show more

“…Patients with mental disorders often have a variety of sleep problems, such as sleep interruptions and a reduced duration of sleep ( Baglioni et al, 2016 ). Both Dialister related to carbohydrate metabolism ( Gonçalves et al, 2016 ) and Bacteroides related to fat metabolism ( Li et al, 2022 ) were increased in the intestinal tract of adolescents who slept longer, which might be the reason for the different distribution of intestinal microbiota in adolescents with different sleep duration. Given that adolescents are in a critical period of growth and development, a balanced diet could not only help in maintaining a stable intestinal microbiota but also promote a healthy psychological state and improve sleep quality.…”

“…In recent years, various effective drugs, such as glucose-lowering drugs, antioxidants, lipid-lowering agents, and natural bile acid treatments, have been used to treat NAFLD ( Mantovani and Dalbeni, 2021 ). Interestingly, gut microbiota analysis has shown an increase in Bacteroides abundance after treatment with Raw Bowl Tea polyphenols, atorvastatin, Ganoderma meroterpene derivative, and the prebiotic inulin for NAFLD ( Liu et al, 2019 ; Qiao et al, 2020 ; Aoki et al, 2021 ; Li H. et al, 2022 ). For instance, atorvastatin was found to reduce lipid levels, improve HFD-induced hepatic steatosis, and increase Bacteroides abundance ( Li H. et al, 2022 ).…”

In fa/fa rats, the oral administration of Ganoderma meroterpene derivative was shown to reduce de novo lipogenesis, reverse non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis, and enhance Bacteroides abundance ( Qiao et al, 2020 ).…”
