“…The apparatus was mounted on a position-adjustable XZ stage. The energy scale of the incident photon beam was calibrated by measuring the K-absorption spectrum of Zr foil and also by recording the 1s photoelectron spectra of Ar and Kr atoms [16]. The energy scales of the electron spectra were calibrated by measuring the Auger electron spectra and the photoelectron spectra of Ar and Kr atoms.…”

“…73 Figure 17 shows the Xe L 3 absorption edge measured and fit by Breinig et al 70 to components consisting of 2p AE ns, n = 6, 7, 8, ... and 2p AE nd, n = 5, 6, 7, ... Rydberg series leading to the 2p AE es, ed continuum threshold. Spin-orbit quantum numbers are neglected here for simplicity.…”

“…Breinig et al 70 also measured the Kr K absorption edge and fit it to the form of a 1s AE np, n = 5, 6, 7, ... Rydberg series and ionization threshold. Schaphorst et al 80 remeasured the Kr K edge and found that calculated absorption cross sections for the Rydberg states and continuum edge underestimate the measured total cross section.…”

“…The resonant Auger spectra were recorded at different photon energies directly below the L 1 ,L 2 , and L 3 threshold by using kinetic-energy windows of 45-65 eV around the most intense 2s −1 → 3d −2 6p and 2p −1 → 3d −2 5d transitions. The kinetic-energy scale was calibrated by using the known energy positions of the Ar LMM [18] and Ar KMM normal Auger spectra; the latter ones are derived from the Ar 1s − 1 ionization energy [19] and the binding energies of the 3p − 2 final states [20]. In order to calibrate the photon-energy scale, Ar 2p − 1 photoelectron spectra were obtained in the photonenergy ranges used for the actual measurements, and calibrated by using the known value of 250.79 eV for the Ar 2p −1 1/2 binding energy [18].…”
