Atomic Hydrogen Surrounded by Water Molecules, H(H2O)m, Modulates Basal and UV-Induced Gene Expressions in Human Skin In Vivo

Abstract: Recently, there has been much effort to find effective ingredients which can prevent or retard cutaneous skin aging after topical or systemic use. Here, we investigated the effects of the atomic hydrogen surrounded by water molecules, H(H2O)m, on acute UV-induced responses and as well as skin aging. Interestingly, we observed that H(H2O)m application to human skin prevented UV-induced erythema and DNA damage. And H(H2O)m significantly prevented UV-induced MMP-1, COX-2, IL-6 and IL-1β mRNA expressions in human … Show more

“…4a). UV-B irradiation also activates NF-jB, a transcription factor that activates multiple genes involved in the expression of various proinflammatory mediators (51). The present study has shown that GA treatment inhibited the translocation of NF-jB from cytosol to the nucleus and reduced its protein content in UV-B-irradiated HaCaT cells and BALB/c mouse skin (Figs 2b, S3d, S6a, S6c).…”

“…Interestingly, in a recent study by Mi Hee Shin et al62, they observed that H(H2O) (atomic hydrogen surrounded by water molecules) application to human skin prevented UV-induced erythema and DNA damage. In their stuy, H(H2O) significantly prevented UV-induced MMP-1, COX-2, IL-6 and IL-1β mRNA expressions in human skin in vivo.…”

“…In particular, TGF-β1 induces the production of type I procollagen (Lee et al, 2012). Interleukin (IL)-6, a cytokine produced by various cells, such as fibroblasts, is a signal molecule that mediates the inflammatory response (Shin et al, 2013;Wu et al, 2013) and is also known to be associated with ROS caused by UV radiation. Inflammation increases production of ROS and cytokines, accelerating the aging process (Thiex and Richardson, 2003;Pillai et al, 2005).…”
