Atmospheric heat advection in the Kara Sea region under main synoptic processes

Abstract: Atmospheric studies document both a periodic variability in the winter temperatures in the Kara Sea region related to internal Arctic climate variability and a recent trend of winter warming—one of the strongest warming trends in the whole Arctic. This study aims to analyse side by side with other energy budget terms the contribution of horizontal heat and moisture advection to the observed recent warming. The atmospheric energy budget terms vertically integrated from the surface up to 500 hPa are estimated us… Show more

“…These grouped components indicate different groups of features of the original time series data. Currently, many researchers apply SSA in different areas, such as biomedical diagnostic tests [ 31 ], climatology [ 32 ], economics [ 33 , 34 ], signal processing [ 35 ], etc. A flowchart of SSA, consisting of the substages of decomposition and reconstruction, is shown in Figure 2 .…”

“…Theorem 1 Given the L × N trajectory matrix X defined in (1), let S B = XX /N , S T the Toeplitz matrix with elements defined by (2) and S C the circulant matrix with elements given in (8). Consider the sequence of matrices…”

“…SSA has been applied in different disciplines as several authors illustrate (see [6] and the references therein). For instance, there are recent applications in biometry [7], climatology [8], energy [9] or volcanic activity [10]. In business and economics, SSA has been reviewed for economic and financial time series, focusing on forecasting and business cycle analysis [11].…”

“…Very recently, [18] introduces CiSSA, linking the eigen decomposition to the frequency of the extracted signals and proving the asymptotic equivalence of the three variants (Basic, Toeplitz and Circulant SSA). SSA is widely applied across fields like biometrics, climatology, energy and volcanic activity, among others [29][30][31][32]. Applications in economics cover the analysis of business cycles, volatility estimation and forecasting [10,33,34].…”
