“…Given that the majority of the athletes in our sample considered autonomy, competence, and relatedness important in their sport during COVID-19, this finding has implications for supporting athletes' basic psychological needs during critical setbacks and sport interruptions. A qualitative study by Bejar et al ( 2019 ) found athletes enduring an injury were overall motivated in their sport injury rehabilitation when they perceived their athletic therapists to be fulfilling these needs. Another study found that depending on athletes' needs being satisfied or frustrated had an impact on their wellbeing during the COVID-19 outbreak (Šakan et al, 2020 ).…”
