Atherosclerosis and Osteoporosis. Common Targets for the Effects of Cardiovascular and Anti-osteoporotic Drugs (Part I). The Effect of Cardiovascular Drugs on Bone Strength

Abstract: Daily use of antihypertensive and lipid-lowering drugs in clinical practice dictates the need for knowledge of their pleiotropic effects. The article presents the results of studies of the effect of cardiovascular drugs, such as statins, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, calcium antagonists and nitrates on bone mineral density and fractures associated with osteoporosis. The mechanisms of action of drugs on bone mass, markers of bone metabolism, the frequency of fractures in osteoporosis are discussed. … Show more
