“…Han mener økt innslag av sannsynlighetsberegning i ungdomsforskningen kan skape et inntrykk av at 'particular populations of young people pose a certain dangerousness -to themselves and others' (Kelly 2003:175). Andre forskere har, basert på empiriske undersøkelser, argumentert for at fokus på 'unge i risiko' kan bidra til å forsterke marginaliseringsprosesser (Follesø 2015;Foster & Spencer 2011;Riele 2006). I Norge har dreiningen i retning sannsynlighetsstudier i forskning på ungdom blitt preget av tilgjengeligheten av data fra offentlige registre.…”

“…Jansen (2010) has noted that youth carry a range of possible selves and may choose which self to present in different contexts, and vulnerable youth are not different in this regard. However, given the complex range of issues they typically need to manage and the high level of intervention and overview of their lives by systems, they are at high risk of being seen only as the total of the challenging behaviours that institutions typically deal with (Foster and Spencer 2011;Jansen 2010). This focus on the negative or challenging aspects of their lives often results in their exclusion from mainstream activities which in turn restricts possibilities for these youth.…”

“…This effort meant that the sample size would be sufficient to support analyses of different sub-samples within the larger grouping of SG youth. Crucially, it would also allow us to identify within-group differences that are particular to at-risk populations; something that has received comparatively little attention in the literature where high-risk populations are often treated as more or less homogenous (Foster and Spencer 2011). Understanding the factors that contribute to youth becoming challenging to locate is a central focus of this study.…”

“…These young people develop strategies for "getting by" (Aaltonen, 2013) and have become adept at seeking out resources within the limited options available to them. Recent research suggested that young people who face risks on a wide front including economic disadvantage cannot be perceived as an homogenous group and that for support systems to be effective a deeper analysis of their life experiences is required (Foster & Spencer, 2011). The current study sought to contribute to this growing body of research (Rogers, 2015).…”

“…In designing this study the researchers were committed to hearing directly from young people and focused on their accounts of their experiences (Ferguson & Walker, 2014;Fernandez & Atwool, 2013;Foster & Spencer, 2011). These accounts generated insights and knowledge of the supports and services that enable young people to mitigate "risky" environments and find pathways to achieve their goals and aspirations.…”
